The World Dog Alliance (WDA) is proud to announce that, following its sustained advocacy efforts in the United States, the U.S. House of Representatives has introduced H. Res. 1110, a bipartisan resolution expressing disapproval of the slaughter of dogs and cats for human consumption and encouraging Japan to enact a nationwide ban on such practices.

This important resolution, introduced on March 9, 2026, reflects the growing international momentum behind animal welfare legislation and demonstrates the impact of WDA’s long-term legislative outreach in Washington, D.C. Through direct engagement with members of Congress and policy stakeholders, WDA has worked to raise awareness of the urgent need to end the global dog and cat meat trade.

The resolution highlights that the United States already banned the slaughter of dogs and cats for human consumption through federal law and recognizes similar legislative progress in parts of Asia. It also emphasizes the shared values between the United States and Japan regarding the protection of companion animals and calls for continued bilateral cooperation on animal welfare issues.

Importantly, the resolution specifically recognizes the contributions of civil society organizations, including the World Dog Alliance, for their global leadership in advocating an end to the consumption of dog and cat meat. This recognition reflects WDA’s years of international campaigning, research, and legislative initiatives across multiple jurisdictions.

WDA believes this resolution marks a significant milestone in its mission to promote humane legislation worldwide. As the organization continues its work with lawmakers in the United States, Japan, Europe, and beyond, it remains committed to building a global legal framework that protects dogs and cats as companion animals.

WDA will continue to lead international efforts to advance legislative change and accelerate the day when the commercial slaughter of dogs and cats becomes a practice of the past.
