Pets cats and dogs can now ride high-speed trains! National pilot service launched

According to multiple media reports, pet cats and dogs can now ride the high-speed rail!

Starting from April 8, the national railway department will pilot the high-speed rail pet consignment service of "isolated transportation, separation of people and pets, and dedicated care" on some trains of the Beijing-Shanghai high-speed railway. The railway 12306 will simultaneously launch the "pet consignment" function. Passengers can make online reservations 2 days or more in advance. After the reservation is successful, they can consign one family-raised cat or dog pet in good health, weighing no more than 15 kilograms and no more than 40 centimeters at the shoulder.

Zhang Lei, senior project manager of China Railway Express's High-speed Rail Express Department: Each train is equipped with a set of high-speed rail express cabinets for storing pet transport boxes, which are generally located at one end of the middle carriage and relatively isolated from the passenger space. The staff will not open the boxes during the whole journey to ensure a good environment inside the train and the safety of the pets.

High-speed rail pet consignment implements "isolated transportation, separation of people and pets, and special care". Staff observe the status of pets through the monitoring system of the pet transport box, and conduct regular inspections at intervals of no more than 2 hours. They can add drinking water to pets appropriately, but they cannot be fed, and consignors are not allowed to visit pets.

Pets are kept in special pet transport boxes throughout the journey and placed in the train's high-speed rail express lockers, which can effectively prevent pet hair, odor, and noise from affecting the train's internal environment and other passengers.

Relevant person in charge of China Railway Express introduced that the railway department continues to deepen the structural reform of the supply side of transportation and actively adapt to the diverse travel needs of passengers. Based on extensive listening to passengers' opinions and in-depth market surveys, after professional testing and evaluation, from April 8, a trial of high-speed rail pet consignment service will be launched on 10 trains including G119/118, G121/122, G127, G134, G183/184, G195/196 between five stations on the Beijing-Shanghai High-speed Railway, including Beijing South, Jinan West, Nanjing South, Shanghai Hongqiao, and Hangzhou East.

The World Dog Alliance welcomes this innovative arrangement by the national railway department, which allows owners to bring their dogs and cats with them when traveling or returning home. We hope that this arrangement can be extended to all high-speed rail lines in the country in the future, so that more people and dogs and cats can benefit.
