Japan has over 100 restaurants serving dog meat

During a Japan parliament Q&A session on November 26, 2019, Senator Kushida Seichi posed the following question to the Japanese government: "How many restaurants in Japan serve dog meat as food?"
The answer given by Director Asanuma Kazunari of the Ministry of Health, Welfare and Labour was deeply shocking as well as disturbing. Director Asanuma said that, the government of Japan found information on the Internet showing there are around 50 restaurants serving dog meat in the major cities alone. On further investigations, WDA found that in total there are over 100 restaurants across Japan serving dog meat. In the menus of these restaurants, various dog meat dishes can be ordered, such as dog meat stew. Dog meat was also sold in frozen food stores and online shops.
