The West Kowloon Ferry, which runs between the West Kowloon Cultural District and Central Pier, will officially begin operations on Saturday (15th). The ferry will begin a four-day trial operation today (11th) and will distribute 3,000 free one-way tickets for adults and 500 free one-way tickets for pets to be used during this weekend.

The West Kowloon Ferry is jointly operated by the West Kowloon Authority and Fortune Ferry, connecting West Kowloon Pier and Central Pier 9. The journey takes approximately 8 minutes, with departures every 30 minutes. Service hours are from 8:00 AM to 10:00 PM, Monday to Friday, with extended service until 11:00 PM on Tuesdays, Saturdays, Sundays, and public holidays. All ferries have air-conditioned cabins and passengers are allowed to bring bicycles and pets.

Regarding fares, a one-way adult ferry ticket costs HK$20, with an additional fee of HK$20 for accompanying pets. Eligible passengers, including children aged 3 to 11, seniors aged 65 or above, and people with disabilities, pay HK$10 per ticket, while a monthly pass costs HK$560.

West Kowloon Waterfront Authority Chief Executive Officer Fung Ching-yee stated that the new ferry route is designed to facilitate travel between Hong Kong Island and West Kowloon. She believes the 8-minute journey, scenic views along the way, and the reasonable ticket price of HK$20, along with the option to bring pets, will make the route popular. Fung also indicated plans to collaborate with various tourist attractions, including Peak and museums, to offer package deals.

The World Dog Alliance (WDA) supports this measure and hopes that other public transportation will follow suit, benefiting more pet owners.
