Seoul, South Korea, October 13

On October 13, Genlin, founder of the World Dog Alliance (WDA), met with Han Jung-ae, chairperson of the policy committee of the ruling Democratic Party of Korea, at the National Assembly Building in Seoul.

At the meeting, the World Dog Alliance (WDA) expressed to the South Korean government its hope that President Lee Jae-myung would join hands with the leaders of the United States and China to launch the "International Agreement to Prohibit the Eating of dogs and cats" during the APEC summit in late October. Representative Han Jung-ae, a four-term South Korean lawmaker and former Minister of Environment, has been collaborating with WDA since 2017 and is a recipient of the 2024 Golden Dog Award. A staunch supporter of WDA, she is very familiar with its work. During the meeting, Genlin personally congratulated Representative Han Jung-ae on her appointment as Chairperson of the Policy Committee of the Democratic Party of Korea. As the third-ranking member of the ruling party, Han has direct contact with President Lee Jae-myung, and she promised to convey the World Dog Alliance's request to President Lee Jae-myung.

In January 2024, South Korea overcame numerous obstacles to successfully pass the "Special Law Banning the Consumption of Dog Meat," addressing the long-standing issue of dog meat consumption in the country. As the host country of the 2025 APEC summit, South Korea has the obligation, capability, and responsibility to jointly initiate the ""International Agreement to Prohibit the Eating of dogs and cats" with the United States (which passed legislation banning the consumption of dogs and cats in 2018 and adopted the "International Agreement to Prohibit the Eating of dogs and cats" in 2023) and China (which passed legislation banning the consumption of dogs and cats in its most advanced cities, Shenzhen and Zhuhai, in 2021). The World Dog Alliance believes this move will significantly enhance South Korea's international influence and national image.
